Overview

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s most celebrated safari destinations, nestled in the heart of the Great Rift Valley about 160 km northwest of Nairobi. Known as the “birdwatcher’s paradise”, the park is world-famous for its dazzling flocks of pink flamingos that once carpeted the shoreline, creating one of nature’s most spectacular sights.
Beyond the lake, the park offers an incredible diversity of wildlife including black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, leopards, buffalo, zebras, and over 400 bird species. With its wooded savannahs, dramatic escarpments, acacia forests, and waterfalls, Lake Nakuru is a perfect blend of wildlife, scenery, and adventure.

Highlights

  • Rhinos: Lake Nakuru is a designated rhino sanctuary, home to both black and white rhinos.
  • Big Cats: Lions and leopards are regularly spotted, though leopards are more elusive.
  • Rothschild’s Giraffe: One of the few parks in Kenya where you can see this rare subspecies.
  • Other Mammals: Buffalo, waterbuck, baboons, warthogs, hippos, and zebras are common.
  • Birdlife: Over 400 species recorded including flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, fish eagles, herons, and storks.
